Why Pre-Kindergarten?

Prek is important because it provides a solid foundation for kindergarten, taking into account skills that children need a solid base of in order to become successful learners.  

 

What core competencies do you focus on in Pre-K?

In conjunction with the CLSC we strive to ready children for kindergarten by ensuring they are competent in all core K readiness skills.  

Skills include:

Physical and motor development: Gaining coordination through moving their bodies and participating in large group activities based on land and in water in order to challenge their bodies to move more.  

Self help: dress self, zip, button, bathroom on own.

Social and Emotional development: expression, social emotional regulation, conflict resolution and looking for solutions, listening to the others opinion, sharing materials, following instructions, turn taking, adapting to transitions.  

Communication and exploration skills: Producing complete sentences, understanding instructions, participating in conversations, asking questions, participating in proposed activities, exchanging ideas, engaging in imaginative play.

Cognitive: Maintaining concentration to finish an activity, persevere and accept trial and error, and participate in clean up, exploring the world. 

 

Program

Our daily routine starts with a base, and activities get swapped in to change things up daily.  

Dailyroutine

7:30-9:00 morning drop off. 

9:00: Snack

9:15: Morning Circle

9:45 Centres  (changed up weekly based on theme - centres created to touch on: Sensory, Science, Math, Pre-Writing and Pre-Math skills - but focus on fun! so the children don't realize they are learning!) 

10:30 ACTIVITY OF THE DAY:  

11:00 Outside 

12:15: Lunch

1:00: Quiet time 

3:00: Afternoon snack

3:30: Afternoon circle, questions, and daily discussions, music and movement, books, etc 

4:30-6:00 Departure: Afternoon free play

Activities of the day include, but are not limited to: 

Yoga, Jazzerciseout of the box Thursday, question of the week, cooking, pre-math & pre-reading & pre-writing skills,  Creative arts, field trips, French block, movement and music, dancing, games, 

 

Our main goals are: problem solving, social emotional building,creativeness and encouraging self esteem.
